Short Biography

CHEN Qiang got his B.S. degree from Xi'an University of Architecture & Technology in 2005 and M.S. degree from Southeast University in 2008 in Civil Engineering, respectively. In 2012, he received his doctor degree in Mechanics in Politecnico di Torino in Italy, and joined the School of Biological Science & Medical Engineering as a Lecturer when he come back to China the same year. In 2014, he was promoted to be an Associate Professor in biomechanics.

Dr. CHEN has a background in applied mechanics. His current research interests focus on the studies of mechanics of bone, cardiovascular materials and superlight biological or bio-inspired materials by theoretical, experimental, and numerical methods. He has authored more than 20 publications in SCI indexed international journals, including Adv Mater, J R Soc Interface, J Mech Behav Biomed Mater, J Biomech, Mater Sci Eng C, Eur J Mech A/Solids etc.


  • Study structure and mechanical properties of bones in different locations, and design suitable scaffold in clinics

  • Investigate the mechanical behaviors of normal and diseased cardiovascular walls, such as arterial walls with atherosclerosis etc., and characterize the diseased walls.

  • Reveal the structural and mechanical properties of biological materials, such as bamboo, luffa sponge etc., and propose biomimetic mechanism for potential novel materials.
